Glossary

Liquidity

The ease of trading a quantity without significantly affecting its price.

Definition and example

Liquidity relates to ease and speed of trading. Quantity, timing and market conditions matter; seeing a moving chart is not enough. A quote for a small quantity may not allow a larger order to fill at the same price.

Synthetic example: one unit is available at 100 and the next at 101. Buying two may involve different prices in this simplified book. Do not extrapolate it to a specific market. Volume and spread provide information, but no isolated figure guarantees future liquidity.
