What a currency pair expresses
An exchange rate expresses the price of one currency in another. In an invented EUR/USD example at 1.10, one euro equals 1.10 dollars. Reading this relationship is the first step; the symbol alone does not explain which product a platform offers or how it executes orders.
Distinguish currency exchange, OTC forex, CFDs and currency futures. The CFTC explains that retail OTC forex customers trade against their dealer, a different relationship from trading futures on an exchange. Before studying an entry, identify which of those products you are observing.
Units and a learning example
For practice, choose a hypothetical quantity of 1,000 euros and observe an invented change from 1.10 to 1.11 dollars per euro. The valuation difference is ten dollars before costs. This is an arithmetic conversion; it does not assume that a provider allows that quantity or uses those conditions.
Do not assume a universal pip value. Record the product increment and account currency. If the result needs conversion into another currency, write down the assumed exchange rate too. A precise number without units prevents you from checking where an error occurred.
Chart price and exercise cost
Separate buying, selling, spread, commission and financing whenever they apply to the product. Consult the provider agreement to understand which data it supplies and when each charge applies. The institutional information linked below is a starting point; individual conditions need their own verification.
In an invented practice session, use different buying and selling prices and observe the effect of the spread. Then introduce an assumed cost while keeping the move constant. This lets you explain why a favourable chart does not automatically imply a favourable net result.
Prepare a review without hindsight stories
Choose an official announcement about one of the currencies and summarise the fact in one sentence. Separately write a hypothesis about its possible interpretation. Do not turn the hypothesis into a statement of what the pair will do. Other factors that your exercise does not measure can coexist with the announcement.
After observing an authorised chart, record what happened during a defined interval. If your hypothesis fails, describe the difference before adding a new explanation. The exercise assesses reasoning clarity and record accuracy, rather than the ability to guess a direction.
Availability in Chezur
This centre provides currency education and calculation exercises. The public demo does not execute or replay forex: it uses synthetic data presented around NQ. Chezur does not act as a dealer or recommend a broker. A future currency data catalogue would require verification of licences and the terms of each source.
- Identify the base currency, quote currency and product type.
- Write down quantity, increment and the result currency.
- Separate the official fact, your hypothesis and later observation.
