Understand the example numbers.

Calculate a simulated result after costs and an illustrative expectancy. Formulas and assumptions are visible.

Result after costs

Hypothetical instrument. Entry and exit use price points. Commission and result use the same currency unit; you define quantity and the currency value per point.

Use a decimal point or comma, with no thousands separators. Quantity: positive whole number; prices and costs: zero or more; value per point: greater than zero.

Net = (exit − entry) × direction × quantity × value per point − 2 × commission × quantity − 2 × slippage × quantity × value per point.

Example expectancy

Gain, loss and cost must use the same unit: currency or R (initial risk). The result is per trade in that unit. The frequency is an assumption, not a demonstrated future probability.

Use a decimal point or comma, with no thousands separators. Wins: 0 to 100; gain, loss and cost: zero or more.

Expectancy = p × average gain − (1 − p) × average loss − average cost. It does not include every effect of sequence, liquidity or market changes.
