Competition changes capacity
Other ions compete for exchange sites; pH and salinity alter behaviour. Vague “toxin removal” language is not enough for critical treatment.
Aggressive phosphate adsorption can overshoot a reef target, while ammonia zeolite can obscure whether a biofilter is mature.
Run it as a controlled intervention
Log mass, initial concentration, treated volume, date and removal criterion. Contain granules while allowing uniform flow.
If regeneration is supported, follow solution, rinsing and cycle limits, and dispose according to what the media captured.
