Verified fact · 10 September 2026
The ECB announced a 25-basis-point increase in its three policy rates. Its statement set the deposit facility at 2.50%, main refinancing operations at 2.65% and marginal lending facility at 2.90%, effective from 16 September. These figures belong to that decision, rather than a real-time rate lookup.
Chezur educational interpretation
An announcement date and an effective date serve different purposes. Record both before ordering news in your journal. Also specify which rate you mean: simply writing ECB rate removes information needed to check the figure and can make comparisons between documents misleading.
A projection is an estimated scenario; a decision is an adopted action. When a document includes both, use separate columns. Do not give a future estimate the status of an already observed fact. The institutional text is not, by itself, an instruction to trade EUR/USD.
A reading exercise
Prepare a reference sheet with the institution, date, policy instrument, change and new level. Then write down one piece of information you would consult for context. Leave the question open until you find a source; filling the narrative with an assumption prevents a proper review of your reasoning.
