Map the water path

Observe food or harmless particles with the filter running; do not add household dyes. Check corners, behind wood and beneath dense plants.

A strongly rippled surface can coexist with a poorly swept bottom when intake and return placement are weak.

Adjust in small steps

Change angle or height gradually and confirm fish and plants are not being battered. A skimmer can assist but cannot replace food and waste control.

Remove film during diagnosis and record how quickly it returns.
